Here is the official announcement from the organization to this effect:
The Bruins' start to the season, well below expectations, with an 8-9-3 record, clearly precipitated this decision.
Montgomery finished his stint in Boston despite his impressive 140-41-24 record 140 wins, 41 losses, and 23 overtime losses... That's incredible!
What makes this situation all the more interesting, is that journalist Renaud Lavoie has already stated that Montgomery, a Montrealer, will end up coaching the Montreal Canadiens.
However, in the current context, it seems unlikely that he will replace Martin St-Louis.
That said, an experienced coach like Montgomery, who speaks French, is a rare commodity in the NHL.
It is therefore plausible that the CH will explore the idea of adding him to their staff, not as a replacement, but as a reinforcement to support St-Louis.
A Montgomery-St-Louis duo could become a major asset behind the Habs bench, especially at a time when the organization is looking to take its progression to the next level.
One thing is certain: the name Jim Montgomery is likely to make a lot of headlines in Montreal in the coming weeks.
