Hosts Georges Laraque and Stéphane Gonzalez shared the idea of bringing the 33-year-old center to Montreal and potentially as a third-line center.
The conversation also was on the potential trade pieces which is including Josh Anderson and Christian Dvorak.
George Laraque raised the question during the segment:
Laraque ultimately rejected the idea and voiced his preference to keep Anderson by noting his solid play and current role on the team.
Gonzalez agreed and cited Josh Anderson's contributions and the potential downside of taking on O'Reilly's contract, which is a $4.5 million annual cap hit through 2027.
On the other hand, Ryan O'Reilly remains a very good and polyvalent center and he has recorded 25 points in 39 games with the Predators this season and a 69-point campaign last year.
His experience, leadership, and playoff experience could benefit a young Canadiens roster like the one we have this year.
However, Anderson is a key part of Montreal's lineup this year and he is known for his speed and physicality during the game.
He also fills a critical role as a power forward and his contract of $5.5 million per year through 2027 is comparable to O'Reilly's.
For Kent Hughes, a trade like this would come down to priorities between helping center depth with O'Reilly's experience or maintaining Anderson's energy and consistency.
While intriguing, the trade may not make sense given the current trajectory of the Canadiens' roster.
