Recently, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes shared several interesting details regarding his team's plan for this season, especially after a difficult start to the season.

He confirmed that he would not sacrifice the team's long-term vision to make a trade solely to revive the current season.

In addition, Hughes indicated that we will probably not see youngsters like Joshua Roy or Logan Mailloux in the Canadiens' lineup again unless he as no choice.

Kent Hughes is prioritizing on developing prospects in Laval

Unlike the Canadiens, who are already in last place in the general standings after 17 games, the Laval Rocket are performing brilliantly in the American League.

With an impressive 11-2-0 record after 13 games, this success is ideal for the development of young talent.

Hughes therefore wants players like Joshua Roy, Logan Mailloux and Owen Beck to remain in this favourable environment.

"It's important for us to win at every level and we [the Canadiens' youth] want to give them the chance to do so in Laval." - Kent Hughes

He specified that each potential recall will be carefully evaluated to determine whether integrating a youngster into the Canadiens or removing them from this winning ecosystem in Laval would be beneficial or detrimental to their development.

"We try to let our decisions be guided by what would be best in the long term." - Kent Hughes

This approach clearly focuses on the future of the Habs, which is, in my opinion, the best strategy. Letting talented youngsters contribute to the Rocket's success will allow them to continue to progress in a competitive and positive environment, rather than exposing them to a precarious atmosphere in Montreal.

In the end, a full year in Laval will not be a wasted year, quite the contrary.
