The rumor of a trade between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers involving J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad shows the challenges both teams face this season.

As reported by Habs Fanatics and according to Josh Yohe, Chris Drury from the Rangers proposed a 1-vs-1 trade of Zibanejad for Miller.

Both are 31 years old and have comparable contracts with J.T. Miller at $8M AAV for four more years and Zibanejad at $8.5M AAV for four years as well.

However, Vancouver reportedly declined the offer since Miller's value lies in his superior two-way play and with two seasons of over 99 points, which is making him a better player for the Canucks.

Despite reported tension between Miller and Elias Pettersson, GM Patrik Allvin may believe it's better to address internal issues rather than trade away a key player.

For the Rangers, this offer shows a sense of urgency since it's a disappointing season and the pressure is getting higher and higher.

Acquiring J.T. Miller's leadership could revigorate their roster and even if a one-for-one deal might not be enough, Drury may add prospects or draft picks to convince Allvin.

This situation could also draw interest from the Montreal Canadiens since Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton might see an opportunity to add Miller, Zibanejad, or even Elias Pettersson if any become available.

As the March 7th trade deadline approaches, the thoughts of adding a player like J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad is enticing.

Vancouver have to decide whether they want to stick with Miller or address locker room tension through a trade, while the Rangers face pressure to improve immediately.
