According to journalist Daria Tuboltseva from Responsible Gambler, Jeff Gorton supposedly traveled to Russia in October to meet with top prospect Ivan Demidov.
This claim surprised many since no one in the Canadiens' organization or local media had mentioned such a visit.
However, Renaud Lavoie from TVA Sports denied the report on BPM Sports, stating:
Following Renaud Lavoie's clarification, Daria Tuboltseva corrected her statement and she acknowledged that Demidov had indeed met with Canadiens representatives in St. Petersburg, but Gorton was not part of that group.
She explained:
This correction raises the possibility that Nick Bobrov, the Canadiens' co-director of amateur scouting, met Ivan Demidov since Nick Bobrov has strong ties to the SKA organization where his father works.
Despite the initial confusion, it's reassuring that Montreal's management stays engaged with Ivan Demidov, one of the top Russian prospects.
Recently, Kent Hughes, Vincent Lecavalier and Nick Bobrov visited Demidov and his coach, reinforcing the Canadiens' commitment to tracking his development.
This effort highlights the organization's dedication to securing future talent, even when prospects are 6,400 kilometers away from Montreal.
The Canadiens' focus on Demidov could pay off significantly in the coming years.
