The Montreal Canadiens have finalized their lineup for tonight's game and that is confirming the status of Cayden Primeau and Michael Pezzetta.

Martin St-Louis announced that Samuel Montembeault will start in net for the fourth consecutive game, while Justin Barron will return to the lineup for the Habs.

As a result, Jayden Struble will be a healthy scratch and watch the game from the press box.

The decision to scratch Cayden Primeau reinforces the team's diminishing confidence in its backup goaltender.

Cayden Primeau has primarily been used only when necessary such as during back-to-back game situations.

Since his disastrous game against the Buffalo Sabres, he has appeared in only three games and this limited usage raises doubts about whether the Canadiens still view him as part of their long-term plans.

For Michael Pezzetta, St-Louis has shown that he prefers Lucas Condotta, as we can see that he has taken Pezzetta's spot in the last few games.

Joshua Roy also saw playing time before being reassigned to the Laval Rocket.

It seems the Canadiens are keeping Michael Pezzetta as an insurance option in case of injuries, but his future with the team appears uncertain since he's only not playing.

The situation with Cayden Primeau becomes even more complicated when considering Jakub Dobes's pending return from injury since Dobes' strong performance this season could further push Primeau out of the picture.

On a positive note, Samuel Montembeault continues to excel in his net and he's providing the Canadiens with much-needed stability in goal.

His consistent play has been crucial for the team and it's making him the clear choice for the starting role.
