In the last hours, as the Montreal Canadiens took the ice for their practice, some bad news came in.

The organization announced that David Savard and Brendan Gallagher would not be participating in the session, with both players having to undergo a day of treatment.

Two injuries to watch for the Canadiens

This announcement leaves little doubt that both players are suffering from injuries. Brendan Gallagher had already missed yesterday's practice, although he did participate in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets that evening.

As for David Savard, he was forced to withdraw just before the start of that same game. This last-minute absence forced the Habs to call on Jayden Struble, who was not initially supposed to play.

The status of both players will be closely monitored heading into the next game, when the Canadiens face Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night at the Bell Centre.

Gallagher, 32, a fifth-round pick of the Canadiens in 2010, has had a strong start to the season with seven goals and nine points in 18 games.

David Savard, 34, a fifth-round pick of the Blue Jackets in 2009, has four points in 17 games this season.
