The Montreal Canadiens are riding a wave of renewed energy which new players like Patrik Laine and Alexandre Carrier are fueling.

Their strong performances have bring confidence into the team and is helping them rediscover the way to win games.

Add the excitement around top prospects like Michael Hage and Ivan Demidov and the Habs' future looks brighter than ever.

However, labeling players as "untouchable" in hockey is always up for debate and Pierre McGuire identified four Canadiens prospects he considers untouchable and they are Ivan Demidov, Jacob Fowler, Owen Beck and Logan Mailloux.

Demidov and Fowler's untouchable status is undeniable since Ivan Demidov is projected to be an elite offensive talent, while Fowler is one of the best prospect of the NHL in the net.

The cases for Mailloux and Beck are less certain since Mailloux has potential, but with defensive stars like Lane Hutson and Kaiden Guhle, this limits his future role with the team.

Trading him while his value is high could be a good move just like Owen Beck since his ceiling appears to be as a bottom-nine forward and is drawing comparisons to a reliable but less impactful player like Jake Evansé.

While Beck is valuable, calling him untouchable may be a little too much in his case.

History reminds us that no player is truly off-limits since even Wayne Gretzky himself was traded in the past.

While Montreal's future is promising, labeling young players as untouchable can limit opportunities to have a good value for what a player can offer.

The Canadiens are in a great position with a competitive present and a bright future at the same time
