While such a transaction has yet to materialize, the Habs' recent performances, which have won three of their last four games, could encourage Kent Hughes to bring in reinforcements to help Martin St-Louis' men get back "in the mix" soon.
Darren Dreger made some very interesting comments to this effect during his appearance on TSN 690 yesterday morning.
Even though he mentioned that a trade is not imminent at the moment, the journalist, who has excellent sources throughout the NHL, still linked the Montreal Canadiens to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He also mentioned that Pens GM Kyle Dubas and his scouts have been observed several times at the Bell Centre this year, probably keeping an eye on the performances of certain players in particular.
In addition, knowing that the Canadiens will have too many forwards when Patrik Laine and Rafael Harvey-Pinard return to Martin St-Louis' lineup, Kent Hughes could take advantage of the situation to send a player to Pittsburgh.
Darren Dreger also indicated that the Penguins have interesting players, but that Kyle Dubas could find himself having to add a little candy (prospect/draft pick) if Kent Hughes is not interested in them.
Of course, he didn't mention that a trade will definitely happen, but he did admit that the two teams find themselves in a situation where they could help each other by completing a trade.
In short, this will be a case to watch in the coming days!
