The Montreal Canadiens were facing the Washington Capitals last night. Despite a good start, Martin St. Louis' team lost 4-2 following a difficult third period.

However, during the game, we were able to witness Cole Caufield's 17th goal of the season, which is the most by a Habs player prior to their 30th game of the campaign since Tyler Toffoli in 2020-21.

The Habs' rookie defenseman, Lane Hutson, once again, had a good outing. In fact, the 20-year-old contributed on Alex Newhook's 6th of the season to get his 18th assist.

With this pass, the #48 joined some good company, matching a mark set by Glen Harmon and matched by Chris Chelios.

In fact, Hutson became the third defenseman in the Montreal Canadiens' history with the longest point streak by a rookie defenseman (6 games).

During those 6 games, the USA-born player got 7 points and all of them were assists.

With his performance against the Capitals, Hutson is now second in scoring among rookies in the NHL this season.

Matvei Michkov is the only rookie with more points than him with a total of 24. The Russian scored twice yesterday in his team's loss to the Boston Bruins.

Hutson still has yet to score his first NHL goal. In 29 games in his NHL career, Hutson has 20 assists.

Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft (62th overall), Hutson has been highly impressive with his level of play.

It will be interesting to see how the young defenseman keeps going by the end of the campaign as he's currently a front runner for the Calder trophy along with Michkov.
