The Canadiens made a trade offer of several players, including Joel Armia, to the Senators
According to what is circulating around the NHL, the GM of the Montreal Canadiens Kent Hughes is very active on the trade market.
Speaking of trades, as stated by by Pierre McGuire, the Habs tried to send Joel Armia to the Ottawa Senators in a multi-player trade a few seasons ago.
During an appearance on The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro, the Sportsnet journalist mentioned that Kent Hughes has been trying to trade Joel Armia for a while, but no deal has been successful.
"They've been trying to trade Joel Armia for a long time, I can tell you that right now. I was working for a team [the Ottawa Senators] and they offered us Joel Armia, that was three years ago." - Pierre McGuire
Clearly, the Canadiens management decided, 3 years ago already, that the forward was not part of the organization's long-term plans.
Joel Armia was offered in a trade to the Senators
Tony Marinaro confirmed during his show on BPM Sports that this transaction, which unfortunately fell through, included several players, whose identities remain unknown.
"He told me he was part of a much bigger trade than that. There were several pieces in that trade. He told me he wouldn't name the other players, but obviously the trade didn't happen. Joel Armia, less than three years ago, was offered by the Gorton-Hughes administration to the Ottawa Senators in a multi-player trade, but the Senators said no." - Tony Marinaro
Knowing that he will become a free agent this summer, it will be interesting to see if Kent Hughes will try to trade him again before the trade deadline.
Personally, even if his performances leave something to be desired this year, I am convinced that some teams, wishing to bring reinforcements to their fourth line, will show interest in the 31-year-old veteran.
I mean, we're talking about a 6-foot-3, 216-pound forward who was selected 16th overall in the 2011 draft, and who notably recorded 184 points, including 90 goals, in 522 games in the NHL.
In your opinion, will Joel Armia be traded by the Canadiens this season?
In any case, this will be a case to watch between now and March 7!
