Several players, identified as key elements for the relaunch of the reconstruction, are currently disappointing, to the point where major questions are surfacing.
This is the case for Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, and even Juraj Slafkovsky, who has also been flayed in recent weeks.
However, I will leave the Slovak aside, since he is only 20 years old, and he already proved last year that he could become an impact player.
On the other hand, in the case of Dach and Newhook, it is a frankly worrying regression this year, at 23.
The former Colorado Avalanche player has scored just four goals in 20 games, while the Chicago Blackhawks acquisition has just eight points in 20 games.
For many people, including me, who saw Dach becoming the Canadiens' second center, the observation of his performances this year hurts a lot.
He may not be a center, or even a top-6 player.
The Canadiens had high hopes for Dach as the spearhead of the attack, but his season raises many questions about his true role on the team.
Some analysts are even starting to question his future with the Habs.
On air yesterday on BPM Sports, the former NHL powerhouse was very direct about the performance of the third overall pick in the 2019 draft.
Laraque made a shocking statement by claiming to have completely given up on his potential.
Do you agree with Laraque about number 77?
With another season left on his contract next year, Dach will definitely have to pull himself together very soon to finish the year on the right foot after a bad start to the season, in order to justify his place in the team's future in Montreal.
In my eyes, the missed season last year was catastrophic for his development. It is clear that it will have had an impact on his performance at the start of the campaign.
However, this excuse has its limits, and very soon, it will no longer be able to justify his poor performance.
But beyond the statistics, it is his involvement and his hard work that are alarming, and that has nothing to do with his injury.
This is where I agree with Laraque as well. If Dach is not a top-6 player, not only does it create a huge hole in the team's offense, but the Canadiens are still missing a top-tier center.
This would be a serious problem for Kent Hughes.
