Yesterday afternoon, the Ottawa Senators made an announcement that went rather unnoticed, but that could potentially help the Montreal Canadiens.

Sens general manager Steve Staios placed 28-year-old tough guy Zack MacEwen on NHL waivers, making him available for free to any team that would like to acquire him.

"The club has recalled forward Zack Ostapchuk from Belleville, while placing forward Zack MacEwen on waivers." - Ottawa Senators

Recall that according to information reported by Elliotte Friedman recently, Habs general manager Kent Hughes is looking to add a character forward to his bottom six.

Could Kent Hughes claim Zack MacEwen?

Zack MacEwen, who is mainly known for his physical game and his ability to defend his teammates, could therefore represent an interesting option to bring a little toughness to the Montreal squad.

In addition, the 6-foot-4, 227-pound forward only earns a salary of $775,000, which would eliminate the financial risks regarding his acquisition.

Obviously, the Senators forward is not an offensive player, as evidenced by his three points in 19 games this season, but his 44 body checks would certainly provide a valuable boost to the Canadiens' fourth line.

Zack MacEwen could alleviate the responsibility of Arber Xhekaj, who has the burden of being practically the only player on the Montreal Canadiens who is able to drop the gloves to come to the defense of his teammates.

In your opinion, should the Habs claim Zack MacEwen?

In any case, Habs general manager Kent Hughes has until 2 p.m. today to make a decision regarding the 28-year-old veteran. Note that the CH holds the third priority in terms of players available on waivers.
