The official account of the National Hockey League congratulated the four goalkeepers who were able to maintain the best goals allowed average during the last week of action in the Bettman circuit.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper notably rose to first place, tied with Jake Oettinger, with an impressive average of 1.34 goals allowed per game.
After a rather difficult start to the season, the goalkeeper from Bécancour is slowly starting to find his bearings, having only conceded four goals in his last four appearances in front of the Canadiens' cage.
During this sequence, #35 of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge rejected 84 of the 87 shots aimed at him, which equates to a solid efficiency rate of 0.965. He notably recorded a record of 3-1, shutting out none other than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on Monday night.
It will be interesting to see if his recent performances will allow him to land a position with the Canadian team for the 4 Nations Face to Face, which will take place from February 12-20.
Personally, I am convinced that Montembeault deserves his place ahead of goalkeepers like Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill or even Stuart Skinner.
Despite the fact that the Montreal Canadiens' defensive brigade is really inexperienced, it displays very interesting statistics with a goals against average of 2.85 and an efficiency rate of 0.906.
Either way, this will definitely be one to watch in the coming weeks, but don't be surprised if Monty represents Canada in early February.
