As you may know, the Boston Bruins officially fired their head coach, Jim Montgomery, last night.

No need to say, this decision surprised many fans, especially since he won the Jack Adams Trophy in 2023, the distinction given to the best head coach in the NHL.

Yes, the Boston Bruins have had some difficulties since the start of the season, but the fact remains that the Habs' rivals are only two points behind the three-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning and third place in the Atlantic Division.

In spite of that, you will understand that this announcement has caused a great reaction throughout the Bettman circuit, but especially in Montreal.

While many observers are waiting for the moment when the Montreal Canadiens will add an experienced coach to support Martin St. Louis, Montgomery is becoming a prime candidate in the eyes of fans.

Personally, I don't know if the former Bruins pilot would be interested in an assistant coaching position, but if so, there's no doubt that Jim Montgomery would be the ideal person to help St. Louis behind the bench.

After all, in 184 games at the helm of the Bruins, he lost only 41 games in regulation time. In addition, he recorded an impressive record of 120 wins, 41 losses and 23 overtime losses.

So, this will be a case to watch!

Jimmy Murphy believes the Montreal Canadiens could be interested in Jim Montgomery

In the last few hours, an interesting development has come through Jimmy Murphy. The reporter assigned to the Bruins' activities indicated that the Montreal Canadiens could potentially be among the teams interested in
Montgomery's services.

"I guess the phone is already ringing for Jim Montgomery, the former Boston Bruins head coach and 2023 Jack Adams Award winner.

I don't know if he'll take some time for himself and if the Bruins will allow teams to hire Montgomery this season, who is still under contract.

Here are the teams I would monitor for interest in Jim Montgomery, either as an assistant or head coach, in the event of a change: the Montreal Canadiens, the St. Louis Blues, the San Jose Sharks and the Detroit Red Wings." - Jimmy Murphy

Now that's interesting!

Of course, knowing that the head coach was fired less than 24 hours ago, there is nothing concrete at the moment regarding a new hire involving Quebecer Jim Montgomery.

However, given the lack of experience behind the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge bench, this will be a file to monitor in the coming days.
