As reported by Habs Fanatics and according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Joel Armia's name has surfaced as a potential trade target and Grant McCagg has weighed in on his possible trade value.
As an answer to the buzz, Stu Cowan commented on Armia's performance this season:
McCagg's assessment of Armia's trade value was surprisingly optimistic:
Joel Armia has put together a solid season by recording 18 points in 37 games while playing a 200-foot game and despite his limited ice time, he has shown consistency which is making him an appealing depth option for playoff-bound teams looking to help their forward lines.
A second-round pick would be a significant return, especially given Armia's previous struggles with injuries and his inconsistency during his career.
However, his current form and role in a bottom-six role may justify the price, especially for a team with cap flexibility and playoff aspirations.
For the Canadiens, trading Armia for a second-round pick would be a win as it allows them to add draft assets during their rebuild and for a contender, acquiring a veteran like Armia could provide depth to their line-up.
Whether or not Armia bring a second-round pick depends on his performance leading up to the deadline and market demand.
If you're Kent Hughes, would you make the deal?
