With the team's current struggles and the apparent need for reinforcements to support Martin St-Louis, it seems that Kent Hughes and the Habs management are taking this situation seriously.
The departure of Alex Burrows, who was an assistant coach, left a void that the Habs want to fill quickly.
Among the names circulating, that of Jay Woodcroft, former coach of the Edmonton Oilers, would be a plausible option.
This is not the first time that Woodcroft has been mentioned in this context.
Other candidates would also be in the running, such as Gerard Gallant and Jim Montgomery, the current coach of the Boston Bruins, whose future in Boston could be uncertain if the team decides to change direction.
The Jay Woodcroft track seems to be taking shape in a more significant way, however, and discussions are intensifying around his possible recruitment by the Canadiens.
According to TFP, the former Oilers coach could come and bring his expertise behind the bench and support Martin St-Louis in the development process of this rebuilding team.

It remains to be seen whether Woodcroft, Gallant or Montgomery will be the management's final choices, but one thing is for sure: Kent Hughes seems determined to give St. Louis the tools it needs to succeed, and that reinforcement behind the bench could well arrive sooner than expected.
