Remember that Georges Laraque had mentioned a meeting between the Habs coach, GM Kent Hughes and Gallant in a Toronto café.
However, shortly after the BPM Sports host's statement, several journalists as well as Kent Hughes denied this information.
Asked about this speculation that has caused a stir recently, a journalist asked St-Louis today:
Here is what St-Louis responded:
Martin St-Louis denied that Gallant is in discussions with the organization to join the coaching staff.
However, in his short statement, he added an interesting point by mentioning that he is considering all options to improve his work and strengthen his team.
This suggests that he would be open to add an experienced member to his team, if that was the best solution for the Canadiens.
However, barring a huge surprise, it seems unlikely that any changes or hiring will occur this season.
Based on the statements from St-Louis and Hughes, who have refuted the Gallant rumor, there would be no rush to add any new member to the coaching staff. They seem to want to let the season play out and wait until next summer for a full evaluation.
Is this the best decision for the Habs? I doubt that waiting is necessary. In my opinion, St-Louis has a lack of experience and would need to be supported by someone with NHL experience.
In my opinion, this reinforcement should be put in place as quickly as possible.
