Many players have contributed to the Habs' recent success, such as goaltenders Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes, defenseman Lane Hutson and forwards Patrik Laine, Jake Evans, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
Of course, the recent performances were interesting and all players brought something on the ice to help the team. However, forwards Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield are distinguishing themselves with the team, but also around the NHL.
In fact, both of them are currently leading the league in specific categories respectively.
Caufield: A destructive wrist shot
Cole Caufield is currently Montreal's best goal scorer of the season so far with a total of 23 goals.
At the moment, he stands in the top-10 of the goal scorers around the NHL and is tied with Kyle Connor (Winnipeg Jets) and Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota Wild).
However, the American-born is leading the NHL in a specific category: Goals by wrist shot. In fact, as of January 10th, the #13 had 16 goals scored by wrist shot.
Tampa Bay Lightning's forward Brayden Point is trailing with 14 goals while Calgary Flames' Nazem Kadri and Kirill Kaprizov are tied with 13 goals.
Caufield will most likely reach career highs this season as he's 5 goals away from his total of last season, which was 28 goals. So far this campaign, he has 40 points in 42 games and could possibly end the season with a point per game if the Habs pursue their hot streak.
Suzuki: Mr. Seal the Deal
Montreal's captain is also having a season to remember. He's currently leading the team in points with 43 points and could possibly end the season with a point per game average.
If he does, he'll be the first Habs player to do so since Alex Kovalev in 2007-08.
With 13 goals this season, the #14 is the second best goal scorer of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. However, he leads the NHL in goals scored in overtime with 4, tied with Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers.
Just as information, Draisaitl currently leads the League with 31 goals, which means the statistic is even more impressive from Suzuki.
The captain scored his 4th overtime goal of the campaign a few days ago, when he beat Logan Thompson. Before that, the 25-year-old had also scored the game winning goal against the Vancouver Canucks the previous game.
Martin St. Louis' team will be back in action on January 14th as they'll be visiting Utah for the first time. The Habs will, then, head to Dallas before coming back on home ice to face the Maple Leafs and the Rangers in back-to-back games.
