Ottawa could be a potential destination for Cayden Primeau
In the past weeks, a lot happened for the 25-year-old goaltender, Cayden Primeau.
In fact, following a difficult start of the season with mediocre statistics, the Montreal Canadiens recalled goaltender Jakub Dobes from the Laval Rocket and placed Primeau on waivers before assigning him back to the AHL.
Despite being ignored by all 31 other NHL teams when on waivers, the American-born netminder appears to draw some interest, according to the Ottawa Citizen's journalist, Bruce Garrioch. - via TVASports.ca
Since exiting their game against the Oilers on December 22nd, Linus Ullmark hasn't touched the ice and, according to Ottawa's head coach, Travis Green, the Swedish won't be back soon as he's considered week-to-week with his lower body injury.
With such bad news regarding their #1 netminder, Bruce Garrioch has mentioned the management of the Sens will be looking to add some depth in front of their net, especially while fighting for a playoff spot.
According to Garrioch, three names have been floating as potential candidates: John Gibson (ANA), James Reimer (BUF) and Primeau (MTL).
The name of Ville Husso (DET) has been in the rumors as well, but his yearly $4.75M seems like an issue.
The Sens are currently playing with Anton Forsberg and Leevi Merilainen as their goalie tandem. However, both of them aren't playing at an NHL level at the moment.
Since November 25th, Forsberg has a 1-3-0 record, a GGA of 3.56 and a save percentage of 0.843. On his side, Merilainen has a 2-2-0 record, a GGA of 3.10 and a save percentage of 0.884 since being recalled.
For Montreal Canadiens' Primeau, being traded to Ottawa could be beneficial as it would give him an opportunity to have a fresh start. Since being sent to the Rocket, he played once, stopping 27 shots in a 2-1 overtime game.
A new start could be better for Primeau, especially if Jakub Dobes keeps playing like he has been since being recalled. In two outings, he earned two wins, stopping 56 of 57 shots faced against the Panthers and the Avalanche.
